SERVICES

Today, many children with Autism Spectrum Disorder are diagnosed at a young age, and provided with specific instruction in the "hidden rules" of social interaction to help them compensate for the social-communication component of their Autism Spectrum Disorder. But what about those kids who slipped through, unrecognized and ultimately undiagnosed? Or worse yet, misdiagnosed? This is the question we are working to answer.

Did you always seem to be been a misfit as a child, labelled as "weird", "defiant", "beligerant" or worse?

Are you good at your work yet never able to keep a job?

Are you struggling with the sights and sounds (or even smells) of the world that everyone else seems not to notice?

Could Autism be why?

Let's replace offensive labels with a real diagnosis;

and replace discrimination with understanding.

AUTISM DOES EXIST!

The practice is focused on diagnosis and connection to community supports for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Ongoing care and prescriptions are beyond the scope of this practice and should be managed through your Family Physician.

ADULT AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER DIAGNOSIS

We are not currently taking on new patients at this time. Autism Calgary maintains a list of private psychologists with knowledge of autism spectrum disorder who can provide diagnosis.

DISABILITY APPLICATION SUPPORT

We can support you through the process of disability applications, should this be appropriate in your individual case. Oftentimes, just finding the words to describe how a person with Autism is disabled can be difficult. We can help you identify your individual strenghts and weaknesses and explain these to others.

Please note that having a doctor complete medical forms is usually not covered by your Provincial Health Care.

PROGRAM CONNECTION

There is a growing network of services coming together to support people before, during and after diagnosis with Autism Spectrum Disorder. But where to turn first? We can help you with an individualized program plan and even support letters, when required.

DISABILITY APPEALS

If the severity of your Autism (alone, or in combination with other mental health issues) was previously under-recognized then we can support you through the appeals process for disability programs (such as Alberta's Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped program).

Please note that having a doctor complete medical forms is usually not covered by your Provincial Health Care.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION

For some people, their biggest need is to know that they are not alone in the world. There is a vibrant community of people with ASD who have amazingly diverse abilities and interests. We can help you connect with people and groups on the Spectrum should you be interested.
